Neighborhood Guide: FiDi/Battery Park City

Notable FiDi landmarks recognized around the world
The Financial District is the business epicenter of New York City. As the financial capital of the world, the area is populated with banking corporations to high end flagship stores serving the business crowd. While FiDi, as it is affectionately known, can get seemingly abandoned at night, the crime rate is pretty much nonexistant. With the introduction of several upscale condominiums and rentals to the area, Wall St is becoming more residential. For entertainment, nearby South Street Seaport has a number of apparel shops, restaurants, weekend concerts, among many other attractions.

Another area attraction is Stone Street. Its cobblestone street, outdoor seating and fine dining attracts the lunch and happy hour crowds. What the area is well known for is its transportation options. Rivaling Times Square as a transportation hub, almost every major train passes through the Financial District as well as the PATH to Jersey. The soon to be completed Fulton Street Transit Center will improve connections, create free transfers and bring more retail stores into the area.

Battery Park City

Enjoying the larger than life slides at Teardrop Park
Battery Park City, which some may see as an offshoot of FiDi, is a neighborhood within itself as the close-by corporations do not seem to faze many family residents. While the area is overall residential, small boutiques and restaurants have setup shop. Area partnerships and developers such as the Albanese Organization and Battery Park City Authority have been pushing green initiatives as well. This has lead to 3 luxury "green living" buildings that hold LEED status.

Committed to the idea of this green community, the area has the two parks of Battery Park and Teardrop Park. The 2-acre Teardrop Park is the newer of the two and is a great family attraction for its hidden rock pathways for children's adventures and lengthy slides.

All along the Hudson River in Battery Park City runs the esplanade with running paths, activity areas and open views of New Jersey and the Statute of Liberty. Conveniently located near Tribeca and FiDi, Battery Park City is easily accessible by foot from area FiDi trains.
