Boxing For A Cause: Wounded Warrior Project

Boxing is a passion of mine and this solidifies why. With other sports all about the glitz and glam, boxing is all about heart. On Saturday, September 11th, 2010 Chase Backer of High Vista Inc. and Gleason's Athletic Club will promote the International Amateur Boxing Event at B.B. King's Blues Club.

The event will take place in efforts to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project and 2011 Golden Gloves. Honestly, I was not very familiar with the Wounded Warrior Project before until I heard about this event. Headquartered in Jacksonville, FL, the project is actually one of the main organizers of the bike ride for paralyzed soldiers that occurred this July between Brooklyn and Macy's 34th street.

The level of boxing skill on display is something I am anticipating. The special event sanctioned by USA Boxing Metro will take place between the British National Team and the New York City All-Star Team. Both teams are made up of Olympic hopefuls who will be fighting to get one step closer to gold.

Much of the New York City All-Star Team is made up of boxers from the Brooklyn based Gleason's Gym. With Britain's boxing team on the rise since the 2008 Olympics, winning one gold medal and two bronze, the bouts should be closely matched . I hope to see Briton Bradley Saunders come back with avengance after his early round knockout in 2008. The night will also include guest appearances and a silent auction. Auction prizes range from a dinner for two to a Lexus.

About This Blog

As a full-time graduate student, real estate agent, and competitive boxer, I saw the need for a blog detailing experiences in different neighborhoods across New York City. A New York resident, born and raised I recently sought out to explore NYC and document what stood out to me in each and every featured neighborhood, including that ever so important residence in which you lay your head. Follow me and you just might find out some very helpful information. Stay Tuned.
